In this chapter the authors review the use of precision technologies in pasture-based systems as a mean to achieve these sustainability goals. There is a particular focus on Ireland, given that it has a predominantly grassland-based production system. The chapter reviews traditional measurement systems, the range of precision technologies, data processing and decision support systems. It also reviews applications such as virtual fencing and dairy herd management.
