The chapter then looks at structure and price volatility in the coffee market and its impact on smallholders, including the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. A particular focus is women and young people who are often marginalized in the sector but who are key to its health and future. The chapter looks at solutions which can improve livelihoods for smallholders, including women and young people, and ensure a future that is both economically and environmentally sustainable.
