“In an era in which international relations rest on public opinion but the public sphere has never been so disrupted, this book is welcome. Chitty, Hayden, Ohnesorge, and Wang have drawn together an excellent set of essays from leaders in the field of public diplomacy and soft power studies, including their own insights, to guide scholars through the emerging era of artificial intelligence. Important subjects addressed here include measurement of opinion, attempts to restrain technology, digitally driven cults of personality, and the differences between AI models in their commentary on global issues. This book belongs in the research collection of every institution or scholar seeking to understand the impact of the latest technology on issues of global image and influence.” — Nicholas J. Cull, Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, University of Southern California

“The Anthem Handbook of Soft Power and Public Diplomacy in the Age of AI explores artificial intelligence not just as a tool but as an actor, trespassing on traditional state privileges of authorship, agency, and influence. Five sections examine how we meas-ure influence, craft narratives, engage culture, govern technology, and navigate con-flict. The chapters establish empirically informed frameworks while raising questions for scholars and practitioners navigating dual uncertainties: geopolitical turbulence and technological disruption.” — R.S. Zaharna, American University, Washington, DC

“This is the Age, not of Aquarius, but of Artifice. Digitally enhanced ‘reality’ redefines what we mean by power and influence, politics and society, agency and intelligence, trust and transparency, conflict and cooperation. No other volume captures the fizz, the feel, of modern life so informatively from so many angles.” — Nicholas Onuf, Profes-sor Emeritus, Florida International University, USA
