The current radical relandscaping of Germany’s political party system poses not only the parties with a variety of challenges, but also the law that applies to them. Among other things, these changes have an impact on the participation of parties in shaping the will of the people, on the principles of party freedom and equality, on state party funding and the existing system of party-related foundations as well as on the observation of political parties by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the instrument of party bans.
