The papers in this book (published in association with University of Oslo Conservation Studies (IAKH)) address the changes in appearance in Munch’s 19th- and 20th-century paintings. These have been documented by traditional as well as more recent scientific methods of examination. Topics include: Munch’s works in major Norwegian collections; the artist’s’ commission for the University of Oslo Aula and some aging phenomena evident in these artworks; notes of the methods and materials of the artist’s experimental drafts and the present condition of these drafts; past and present conservation campaigns for Munch’s public paintings in various countries; and the painting materials and degradation in works by Munch and his contemporaries.
