Normative judgments shape theology in many ways-yet their underlying assumptions and justifications often remain unclear. This textbook addresses a central but insufficiently explored issue: the formation, grounding, and critique of normative judgments. It shows how evaluations emerge in theological contexts, which implicit assumptions they rely on, and how greater transparency can strengthen their credibility and orienting function.
Adopting an interdisciplinary perspective, the volume introduces key questions, discusses ethical, epistemological, and methodological challenges, and explores the role of normative judgments across all theological disciplines-from exegesis and church history to dogmatics and practical theology.
