Janis Beckedorf analyses how legal complexity can be quantified from a theoretical, methodological and practical perspective. He presents methods for measuring aspects of this complexity, using network science and graph theory to quantify complexity through the structure of law. This approach is applied to German and U.S.-American statutes as well as to German court decisions. The results enable a new perspective on the law, quantitatively supplement legal research and seek to support law-making and the application of the law.
