Despite efforts to reduce fungicide usage through Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and regulatory restrictions, fungicides remain essential to prevent crop losses. However, fungicide resistance has become a significant issue in Southern Europe, particularly impacting economically important crops like grapevines, fruit trees, and vegetables. Over the past 20 years, resistance in the most commonly used classes of fungicides has been closely monitored. While fungicide resistance in Southern Europe is generally well-managed through strategies such as monitoring, rotation, and the development of new technologies, climate change is complicating disease management and increasing the challenges associated with managing resistance. Continued public funding and research are crucial for advancing anti-resistance strategies and ensuring effective crop protection.
