An unparalleled collection of over 200 local pots, curated in thirteen private or public collections, filled the Cyprus American Archaeological Research Institute and surrounding garden to celebrate Nicosia, Cultural Capital of Europe in 1995. Coil-built, wheel-thrown and mold-made pots, plain, incised or glazed, provided educational displays and serene exhibits. Explanations of how, where and who made or used the pottery derive from long-term ethnoarchaeological research. Men and women, sedentary or itinerant rural craftspeople produced cookware, jugs, jars, beehives, basins, pithoi, censers, ovens, decorative pieces, tiles and bricks for use by the local population.
