Globalization and digitalization, together with the growing urgency of global challenges, are reshaping the boundaries of law. Democracies face mounting pressure as crucial decisions are increasingly taken outside of national procedures. Using Switzerland as a case study, Charlotte Sieber-Gasser demonstrates how these dynamics alter the balance of power among the legislative, executive, and judicial branches, while simultaneously eroding the mechanisms of direct democratic participation.
