Walk an alternative path to spiritual transformation with Zhuangzi's timeless wisdom.

For many years, Zheng Kai's "The Philosophy of Zhuangzi" has been one of the most popular undergraduate courses at Peking University. Drawing on examples from modern science, engineering, arts, mathematics, and daily life, Zheng's lectures are tailored to attract students of various backgrounds, not just philosophy. An Introduction to Zhuangzi's Philosophy, based on these lectures, aims to make this acclaimed course accessible to a wider audience. A sensation in China when it was published in 2016, and now available for the first time in English, it provides a friendly introduction to Zhuangzi, Daoism, and Chinese philosophy generally, and serves as a roadmap for curious minds who aspire to wander further in Zhuangzi's world of thought. The book also offers Zheng's own reflections on how Zhuangzi's philosophy addresses modern concerns regarding human existence and the meaning of life. Rather than a historical exegesis of selected passages in the Zhuangzi, the book exhibits Zheng's unremitting effort to soak textual research in the study of human spirit, revealing not only the historical Zhuangzi in writing but his presence in our hearts.
