Despite their significant contribution to agricultural production, women smallholder farmers suffer different types of gender-based violence including physical, emotional, psychological, and economic abuse perpetrated by their partners. This chapter considers the role of women smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa, focussing on the interrelationship between power dynamics and gender-based violence in agricultural production in the districts of Dedza and Salima in Malawi.
