Olivia Harris is a reader in Social Anthropology at Goldsmiths' College, University of London. She has lived for a number of years in Bolivia, carrying out fieldwork, teaching and working as a consultant for the application of the 1994 Popular Participation Law in Northern Potosi. Her recent publications include Ethnicity, Markets and Migration in the Andes: At the Crossroads of Anthropology and History (Duke University Press, 1995), and Inside and Outside the Law (Routledge 1996).
