This chapter reviews the way biopesticides and other biocontrol agents can be integrated into integrated pest management (IPM) programmes. It discusses regulatory assessment of when it is safe and appropriate to use biopesticides, the use of biopesticides in different crop production systems and ways of integrating biopesticides into IPM programmes. The chapter concludes with a case study of the French government’s programme to move its agricultural sector from reliance on synthetic pesticides to the use of more sustainable biocontrol techniques.
