Remember that equations themselves are merely tools and you will be in much better shape if you know what tool you are looking for before you start looking. The book will equip you with the problem-solving techniques and conceptual explanations that can be applied to almost anything in your introductory physics course.

Whitney & Whitney present not a textbook, per se, but rather a generic companion to one. Their contribution to introductory undergraduate Physics lies in a text that helps students to understand, and to derive maximal benefit from, the mathematics underlying standard course texts. As such, it is very valuable to those studying elementary Physics courses or beginning their tertiary education in Physics, but is intelligible and accessible even to inquisitive and eager students in secondary school, keen to ‘dip their toes’ into more advanced material. This handbook is intended mainly for students learning introductory physics or electromagnetics. It is essentially a guidebook for helping students understand and reinforce the basic concepts in physics and engineering. The authors provide examples and explanations for many fundamentals concepts. What makes this book so valuable is that the authors have clearly and carefully written many useful tips and explanations for understanding basic concepts in physics that give students an advantage in not only lest taking but in real understanding. In addition to explaining concepts, many of the tips are for ensuring the calculations are performed correctly.

Joshua F Whitney and Heather M Whitney have both taught at Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL in a variety of roles in the Department of Physics. Joshua is also an amateur bodybuilder and Megaman enthusiast. He completed his PhD in Physics at the University of Tennessee, working in theoretical particle physics. Since then, he has spent considerable time teaching introductory and upper level physics classes and labs.
Heather is also an amateur gardener and cook, and fitness protegé of Joshua. She completed her PhD in Physics at Vanderbilt University, doing research at the Vanderbilt University Institute for Imaging Science. In addition to teaching physics, she works with undergraduate students on research projects in medical physics.
