Collection: ISAC
The Institute for the Study of Ancient Culture (ISAC), formerly the Oriental Institute, at the University of Chicago publishes both scientific and popular reports on its research and activities in the Middle East. Ancient language dictionaries (specifically, multi-volume dictionaries of the Hittite and Assyrian languages), text editions, archaeological reports and related Middle Eastern studies are well represented in the more than 700 works published since the early twentieth century, and many more are in preparation.
ISAC was founded in 1919 by James Henry Breasted with the financial support of John D. Rockefeller Jr. Its goal is to be the world’s leading centre for the study of the ancient civilizations of West Asia and North Africa by combining innovation in theory, methodology, and significant empirical discovery with the highest standards of rigorous scholarship.
