Milk quality is, however, a broader and multifaceted concept, including traits related to both fine chemical composition as well as processability. However, the integration of milk quality attributes into national breeding goals remains limited. This chapter reviews the genetic parameters of key yield traits, including milk, fat, protein, and lactose and their concentrations, as well as fine milk components and milk processability. Advances in large-scale phenotyping, particularly through using mid-infrared spectroscopy, have facilitated cost-effective predictions of such quality traits at minimal cost. Most of these traits are moderately to highly heritable and are characterised by sufficient additive genetic variation, indicating the potential for their inclusion in future breeding programmes.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Dr Giulio Visentin","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":68069368463652,"sku":"9781835458952","price":25.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0880\/7635\/3828\/files\/CoreSourceHub_79976de9-88b5-41a9-9b5f-c8ede02a87c4.jpg?v=1794013594","url":"https:\/\/indiepubs.co.uk\/products\/advances-in-breeding-for-improved-milk-production-and-quality-traits-in-dairy-cattle-1794013521469","provider":"IndiePubs UK","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
